Department information

The Water Supply, Sanitation and Environmental Engineering Department aims to contribute to the global goal of providing safe drinking water and sanitation to all in an environmentally sustainable manner, including the recycling and reuse of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate a numerical model that will help to provide a scientific explanation and mathematical description of the new pumped storage scheme concept;
  • Analyse the large-scale feasibility by means of the implemented code. Coastal regions with high feasibility will be identified and potential demo-sites will be explored and proposed;
  • Supervise the development of a lab-scale physical model with the goal to demonstrate and experimentally describe the new technological approach;
  • Enable potential future exploitation of the results to their full potential by disseminating them to the relevant stakeholders communities across Europe and at international level.

Requirements

  • PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental engineering, Physics or related field;
  • Strong mathematical background and programming skills;
  • Experience in numerical modelling and wave analysis, time and frequency domains;
  • Experience in pressurized steady oscillatory flows and water hammer analysis;
  • Experience in hydraulics lab work, especially in pipe rigs for pressurized transient flows.

Terms of employment

The employment contract is for 38 hours per week.

The candidate will be stationed in Delft, the Netherlands. The position is in accordance with scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
