The Department of Earth Sciences of Uppsala University is one of the most complete such academic departments in Europe. Duties
G. Messori’s research group hosts three H2020/Horizon research projects and several national projects, focussing on multiple aspects of mid and high latitude climate extremes. More information on ongoing research can be found at https://gmessori.eu/. The researcher will contribute to development of new data-driven approaches for a better quantification of impacts related to climate extremes. A specific interest is the automated collection and analysis of data on impacts of climate extremes from text-based sources, using natural language processing techniques.

Requirements
Ph. D. degree in computer science, computational linguistics, meteorology, geophysics, geology, hydrology or related disciplines, or a foreign degree equivalent to a Ph. D. degree in above subjects.  The applicants must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Additional qualifications
Prior research experience at post-doctoral level in the atmospheric sciences will be evaluated positively, as well as ability to interact effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment.

  • A short research statement (maximum 1 page) describing how the candidate’s past experience is relevant to the topic of the project and what approaches the candidate proposes towards the automated collection of data on impacts of climate extremes from textual sources.
  • A list of publications in peer-reviewed international journals. Please only include accepted/published papers and not papers to be submitted or in review.
  • Two references (names and full contact details, including telephone number). Please do not include support letters.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 12 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 01-05-2023 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
