The Ontario Clean Water Agency is seeking a solicitor to join its Legal Services Group!

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Legal Director, in this role you will:

  • Provide legal advice on a broad range of issues including drafting and interpreting commercial agreements
  • Prepare s.28 applications for Ministry of Finance/TBS approval
  • Interpret and advise on regulations and laws that apply to the water and wastewater treatment industry such as the Ontario Water Resources Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations
  • Assist internal OCWA client groups with identifying legal risks associated with the Agency’s business
  • Negotiate agreements with the Agency’s municipal and industrial clients, preparing/advising on Request for Proposals/Request for Tenders / Request for Quotations and providing general legal advice on contracts, insurance, procurement issues
  • Educate internal client groups on various legal issues, including the implication of new legislation

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of and expertise in corporate commercial law and commercial transactions, contract drafting and procurement law, risk management
  • Understanding of the Agency’s regulatory environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced operational environment that is highly regulated
  • Candidates should have demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills as well as proven communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Computer and independent research skills
