ECOBARI is a multi-stakeholder collaborative that promotes joint action among government, civil society, businesses, academia, NGOs and media to help communities conserve their local biodiversity and manage their natural resources sustainably. The position of Coordinator for ECOBARI, based in Pune, will involve representing WOTR + ECOBARI and coordinating the work of like-minded institutions within the collaborative. Responsibilities will include planning and scheduling activities such as training and workshopsincreasing the impact of the collaborative through communication with stakeholders, and managing the digital presence of ECOBARI. The ideal candidate will have an M.Sc. in environmental studies or related field, 7+ years of experience in the development sector related to environmental issues, project management skills, stellar English language skills and knowledge of Hindi.

At ECOBARI you will:

  1. Serve as the coordinator for ECOBARI and represent WOTR in its role as the secretariat of ECOBARI under the guidance of the Director of W-CReS
  2. Coordinate the work of like-minded institutions within ECOBARI to upscale Ecosystem-based Adaptation for resilient incomes in India
  3. Actively liaise with members to plan and schedule activities of the collaborative such as training and capacity building workshops, drafting joint policy briefs, etc.
  4. Seek to increase the impact of the collaborative through strategic communication with relevant stakeholders and media houses
  5. Work with the assistant coordinator as well as WOTR’s communications team to set up and manage its digital presence including but not limited to a website, a knowledge portal, and strategic social media presence
  6. Actively work in increasing the membership base of ECOBARI through campaigns, membership drives and targeted networking
  7. Work on applying for grants and proposals to financially support ECOBARI by coordinating with the Director of W-CReS

Apply if you have:

  1. An M.Sc. (or equivalent) in Environmental studies, particularly natural resources and ecology, or other related fields
  2. 7 years or more of work experience in the development sector related environmental issues
  3. Demonstrated skills of project management, organising events and leading a team
  4. Excellent written and spoken English
  5. Knowledge of Hindi.
  6. Knowledge of other Indian languages will be an advantage

Established in 1993, WOTR is an internationally recognised non-profit and think tank organisation that engages at the intersection of practice, knowledge and policy across scales and in collaboration with various stakeholders across sectors. WOTR’s goal is to ensure water and food availability, along with livelihoods and income security – to support the sustainable growth and well-being of vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in rural India.

As of September 2022, WOTR has worked in 10 states, 4,395 villages, impacted over 4.43 million people and trained approximately 521,000 people (including from 63 countries). On the ground over 1.82 million hectares of degraded landscapes/watersheds have been regenerated, over 158 billion litres of potential water harvesting capacity has been created, and agriculture productivity has increased significantly with a 121% increase in area under triple cropping. Farm incomes in most project villages are 2 to 4 times more than those in control villages. Moreover, it has facilitated over 13,185 SHGs involving nearly 160,000 women.
