The BRI acts as a conduit for R&D ranging from basic to applied research specialising in developing, testing and piloting sustaining and disruptive technologies.  BRI has strong engagements with TUS’s Faculty of Science and Health, Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, and Faculty of Business and Hospitality, along with its sister Materials and Software Research Institutes. BRI also encompasses the internationally recognised ‘Centre for Sustainable Disinfection and Sterilisation’ that supports and facilitates leading industries in this domain.  BRI also supports and enables “Empower Eco” that is Ireland’s first multi-actor sustainability hub situated in the midlands with a vision to foster and accelerate community transitioning, social enterprise to low carbon economies informed by research, education and training. With the support of the Just Transition Fund, as administered by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Empower Eco is establishing living labs and environmental test beds/demonstrator sites across the Midlands region in the environment to support industries to develop concepts, test eco-innovations and solutions. It is appreciated that this job specification responds to established and emerging opportunities that have arisen in the areas of Sustainable Food Production, Food Security, Supply Chain, and adjacent OneHealth that also addresses climate variance. 
The RoleThe successful candidate will report to the Director Bioscience Research Institute; Co-Director Eco to support the management and development of aquaculture and aquatic facilities in the Irish midlands. This role will also comprise of site safety.
Qualifications/ExperienceEssential:Level 8 degree in aquacultureExperience with the peatland based freshwater aquaculture industryMinimum 3 years’ experience in a similar roleExperience in aquaculture site safety managementExperience of in-field monitoring data analysis and relationship to living lab databases and analysisExcellent organisational, time-management and communication skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines.Desirable:Experience in dealing with multi-actors / stakeholdersProven track record of project administration in an enterprise or R&D settingExperience in engaging with industrial and commercial clients on projects along with supporting research provisionsExperience in dealing with and meeting the needs of industrial clients to meet complex needs including supporting and enabling innovationHolds up-to-date water safety certificationHolds a full driver’s licenceDemonstrate an effective ability to lead and work well in a team environmentExcellent written & spoken English.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities       Responsibility of the overall operation of a peatlands-based fish farm from an end-to-end POV.Facilitate and support knowledge transfer from peatland site to Experienced Post Doc work employed work on DAFM projectIdentifying requirements of the species and, selecting and overseeing preparation of site for species cultivation.Determining food requirements and structuring feeding regimes.Monitoring environment and maintain optimum conditions.Conducting and supervising stock examination to identify disease or parasites, and applying sustainable mitigation procedures to control and prevent infection.Operating and maintaining all site equipment including cultivating and harvesting equipment.Collecting and recording growth, production and environmental data.Facilitating the training of aquaculture support workers and technicians and technologists.Maintaining inventory and quality control methods.Determining, administering, and executing policies relating to operations administration and standards, and facility maintenance.Determining how to allocate resources, and how to respond to unanticipated problems such as insect infestation, drought, and fire.Conferring with biologists, fish pathologists, and other fishery personnel to obtain data concerning fish habits, diseases, food, and environmental requirements.Support on-site educational training.Support research, enterprise and innovation outputs in the BRI in these areas.Adhere to TUS processes. BRI project group will meet formally on a weekly basis to review the week’s progress and plan the work for the weeks ahead.Comply with industry regulatory policies.Comply with and contribute to institute policies, procedures and management systems as required.Carry out other duties that may arise which may be assigned by BRI Director.The role will report directly to the BRI Director, or designate.
Annual Leave23 days per annum.
SalarySFI Salary Scale Level 2a €42,032 – €48,427 (6 points)The rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.
