PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Water Lead is a newly created position on the Corporate Sustainability team at Owens Corning to provide corporate oversight to water compliance and footprint management across the organization. This role will be centered on standard management systems to reduce risk and achieve enterprise goals. This position will work closely with the Environmental Leaders of each Owens Corning business, corporate Environmental Engineering, and the corporate Regulatory Law department. This role includes global responsibilities, working closely with global regional Environmental Leaders.
Reports to: Director, Enterprise Environmental & Operations Sustainability
Span of Control: Global, individual contributor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Water Compliance (60%)
- Scope of compliance includes stormwater, industrial wastewater, water withdrawal, and drinking water.
- Develop and implement a global Owens Corning Water Management System with the purpose of maintaining compliance, minimizing environmental impact, and achieving sustainability goals.
- Develop and implement a global Owens Corning Water Internal Auditing program.
- Assist the businesses and facilities with regulatory applicability determinations.
- Review and analyze corporate water compliance performance and deploy compliance strategies.
- Support Owens Corning growth projects that require environmental permitting.
- Monitor and review evolving and emerging regulations. Assess impact of regulatory changes to Owens Corning and propose course of action.
Water Footprint (40%)
- Support global Owens Corning performance against Water Withdrawal Sustainability Goals by consulting on strategies to reduce environmental impact of water withdrawal.
- Support global Owens Corning performance against wastewater emissions for Sustainability reporting by consulting on strategies to reduce environmental impact of wastewater emissions.
- Perform risk analysis for water. Assist plants with setting site specific, context-based targets for water.
- Provide oversight and guidance for sustainability reporting.
- Lead development of water balances for manufacturing sites.
- Explore innovative technologies and assess cost and benefits to operations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or another technical field.
- 5 years direct management of wastewater compliance in industrial setting.
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder projects. Example project stakeholders may include regulatory agencies, corporate legal staff, contractors, business leadership, site leadership, etc.
- Experience applying for and managing industrial wastewater and stormwater.
- Implementation of ISO 14001 (or equivalent) environmental management system.
- Experience leading environmental compliance audits.
- Ability to travel an average of 30% of time, with flexibility to schedule travel in advance. Includes international travel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- In-depth knowledge of United States NPDES regulations.
- Knowledge of Mexican, Canadian, or European air regulations is a plus.
- Knowledge of EPCRA reporting requirements.
- Ability to solve complex problems with multiple stakeholders. Complex problems are those that may involve multiple regulatory schemes, competing business priorities, and uncertain outcomes.
- Ability to influence others in a matrix organization to accomplish goals and objectives.
- Strong user skills for Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including the ability to compose and manage complex Microsoft Excel workbooks and spreadsheets.
