This position performs technical professional work in collecting, analyzing and reporting various surface water and groundwater data and regulating irrigators and other water users in the assigned field office area. This position performs technical professional work in collecting, analyzing and reporting various GPS, topographic, and surface water data across the State of Nebraska. Frequent day travel within the field office service area and overnight travel across the State is required. Examples of Work

Works with irrigators, Irrigation Districts, Natural Resources Districts, and others in the performance of field office responsibilities. Measures streamflow, conducts field investigations, inspects dams, conducts topographic surveys, assists with the preparation of administrative orders, and participates in hearings for agency regulatory purposes. Frequent day travel within the field office service area and occasional overnight travel across the State is required. Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning, or a related field OR two years of work experience in a related area. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience and ability to communicate and work effectively with the public at large, and with attorneys, consultants, applicants and other staff members on highly technical material. Knowledge of state water law, hydrology, stream gaging, irrigation practices, and surface and ground water. 

Experience in organizing and writing technical reports. Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (365); ability to use other software such as ESRI GIS. Skill in basic surveying techniques and GPS. Ability to work in and around water and rough terrain and to use good judgment in all field situations, in adverse weather and in icy river conditions. Ability to lift 75 pounds.
