About the role

Conduct water monitoring operations across Victoria. Train regional EPA staff to use new water monitoring equipment in the field. Deliver high-quality water quality programs such as Beach Report and Yarra Watch (as part of an existing team).

Duties

  • Support the delivery of high-quality recreational water monitoring programs, including Beach Report and Yarra Watch, that meet the priority needs of the EPA as a science-based regular.
  • Deliver laboratory and field work operations as part of EPA’s water monitoring programs (requires travel and overnight stays).
  • Contribute to the procurement and management of scientific services and assets for water monitoring programs.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot field equipment in line with operating manuals and technical procedures ensuring all safety requirements are met.
  • Represent the EPA positively in engaging with the community and duty holders to build knowledge and awareness of relevant laws.

Skills and experience

  • A tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, such as Microbiology, Freshwater Science, Marine Science or Ecotoxicology is desirable.
  • Experience in delivery of water monitoring programs in accordance with a Quality Management System.
  • A current driver’s license.
  • Ability to use, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot scientific equipment and general laboratory facilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver projects / programs to plan, including the management of risks, prioritisation of tasks, and monitoring of workflow.
  • Proven ability to work as an effective member of a cohesive team.
