Presentation

The Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD) seeks to fill a position of Graduate Assistant in Geography (water management) in the research group of Prof. Emmanuel Reynard.

The IGD is an interdisciplinary community of about 130 academics that work in the fields of Geography and Sustainability. With 27 professors and lecturers, and more than 60PhD students and Postdocs, the department offers a vibrant, stimulating environment for cutting-edge research. It hosts regular lecture series and distinguished guest researchers from around the world.

Contract length: 1 year, renewable 2 x 2 years, maximum 5 years

Your responsibilities

The candidate will undertake personal research for a PhD in the field of geography. The topic of the research will be the question of functional spaces (water use basins) applied to integrated water resources management (IWRM). The research will be conducted within the framework of the project “Multipurpose Alpine hydroelectric infrastructures”, as well as the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research (CIRM) of UNIL. A description of the context of the research on the multipurpose use of Alpine dams is available from Prof. Emmanuel Reynard (emmanuel.reynard@unil.ch).

The candidate will devote at least half of his/her time to his/her doctoral thesis and the rest to support the research and teaching activities of Prof. Emmanuel Reynard in the field of water management and mountain geography and to support IGD’s activities as a graduate assistant.

Your qualifications

The candidate must have a Master degree in geosciences (geography, environmental sciences) or social sciences. Good knowledge of geomatics and/or qualitative methods would be an asset

Language skills in French (French is the language of instruction at UNIL and the main language of interaction within IGD) and English are expected. German would be an asset.
