Offer Description

Applications are open for 1 Research Studentship, within the scope of the R&D Unit CiTUA – Centre for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism and Architecture, ref. UIDP/05703/2020, with the financial support of FCT/MCTES through national funds

Workplan: The student will develop work within the Project “CidadeTejo – Estuary of Opportunities: dynamics, challenges and threats on waterfronts of the Lisbon’s Metropolitan Area “.

The project’s first objective is to develop a critical diagnostic of the waterfronts in the Tagus’ estuary to identify: (i) the urban dynamics that led to the existing land uses; (ii) the main characteristics and functionalities that these territories present, namely with regard to opportunities and threats to sustainable development and response to hydrological risks; (iii) the visions and strategies that integrate the different instruments with spatial incidence on these territories, analyzing their effectiveness as instruments of urban transformation, their internal coherence and, also, their spatial and temporal articulation with other territorial management instruments, programs and projects.

In particular, the student must integrate the development of the following Tasks:

Historical Analysis: (i) spatialization of land use changes that have occurred in recent decades and analysis of their drivers (political, economic and social); (ii) identification and systematization of the different land use trends and paradigms along the development of these territories; Analysis of Current Status: (i) analysis and spatialization of the main characteristics and features that these territories present, particularly with regard to opportunities and threats to sustainable development and response to hydrological risks; (ii) identification of the various actors involved in the planning, management and use of these territories and the various conflicts present in the different stages of their urban transformation; (iii) analysis of risk perception and of scenarios or alternative courses of action for the adaptation and mitigation of hydrological risks associated with climate change, based on surveys and exploratory interviews with the population living or working in risk zones (applied in pilot areas).

Duration: The research fellowship(s) will have the duration of 6 months. It’s expected to begin in May 2023, and may be eventually renewed up to the end of the project.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is €930,98, being the payment method by Wire Transfer.

Selection process

Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following:

  1. Curriculum evaluation (80%);
  2. Experience in research (20%);
  3. Individual interview (optional in case of a tie).

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by email.
