Hiring: Waterlution: Water Innovation Lab Coordinator
Type: age 30 & under / summer

Location: Calgary, Alberta / Moh-kíns-tsis (possibility to work anywhere throughout the Bow Valley)

  • Estimated Start Date: June 5, 2023
  • Wage: $18-20 per hr depending on experience
  • Hours: 30 hrs per week
  • Terms of work: 9-week position, work from home, with training and weekly virtual supervisor meetings. Preferably Monday-Thursday with a possibility of extension.

Project Overview:

This is a very special year for Waterlution as it is our 20 year anniversary. We will be hosting a Water Innovation Lab in the same region that we hosted the first Water Innovation lab (WIL) in 2010. The Water Innovation Lab, known as WIL, is a front-running, immersive leadership training designed to give Canada’s most water-passionate and proactive 18- to 35-year-olds the skills, insights, and connections to champion water management issues.

WIL Canada’s mission is to develop skills in the water and climate workforce, spur community water-related projects, and accelerate cross-sector collaboration to improve water security. Learn about WILs and Waterlution at waterlution.org

Role and Responsibilities:

The Water Innovation Lab Coordinator reports to the Water Innovation Lab & Network Lead based in Lower Mainland, BC to support delivery of Water Innovation Lab Canada and prepares other communications materials as needed.

Water Innovation Labs:

  • Support with research in helping to identify field tours demonstrating water & climate change challenges and innovations across Calgary and the Bow Valley
  • Coordinate communications with applicants, participants, special guests, and partner organizations
  • Support with the development of content including website materials, surveys, and program evaluation reports
  • Support on the planning & delivery of virtual and in person trainings

Other:

  • Assist with content creation for which may include podcasts, videos and situation reports
  • Edit, write, and publish blogs using WordPress on assigned topics
  • Prepare posts for social media, with specific content related to WIL
  • Light administrative tasks related to the other duties (such as organizing media files, preparing website updates, creating promo clips)

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Keen interest on climate and water issues in Alberta and Canada with experience working or studying in this sector
  • A self-starter who enjoys getting the job done and feels comfortable asking questions and wanting to be part of a team
  • Organized and able to work from home with minimal supervision (includes virtual mentorship and support from Waterlution team and occasional in person meetings)
  • A strong communicator internally and externally. Takes initiative to provide updates on work progress, successes, challenges and capacity to their supervisor. Able to communicate professionally and engagingly, both verbally and through emails.
  • Some post-secondary (but you do not have to have graduated yet), ideally in: water, environment, Indigenous studies, education, or communications

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with Indigenous partners, or knowledge and willingness to learn about Indigenous perspectives on water and climate
  • Bilingualism would be a strong asset (English required, French or Indigenous language desired).
  • Strong networking skills
  • Involvement and engagement in community activities
  • Experience working within communications

Work Details:

  • Work from home, you will need reliable internet access, a quiet, comfortable desk space to work, and the ability to remain motivated, responsive and focused in a work-from-home setting.
  • Have a personal cell phone and computer with a webcam and mic built-in and must use the phone and computer for work purposes.
  • Waterlution operates on 7.5-hour workdays. We prefer workdays to fit between 9 am and 5 pm local time, yet some flexibility can be offered.
  • Some flexibility will be required of the summer employee when pre-scheduled events need to be delivered in the evenings or on weekends (in person or online).
  • Training and supervision provided, including weekly calls with your supervisor and occasional in person meetings.
  • This position includes substantial networking opportunities.
  • Possibility of extension beyond this contract.
