About your role:

The Senior Associate – EcoCity Coordinator will be based in Chandigarh/ Jalandhar and would provide technical support to various stakeholders located in the state of Punjab. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Program Manager, Water Resilience practice of WRI India.

How your day will unfold: 

  • Assist in day-to-day coordination as required for execution of the ‘Thriving EcoCity-regions’ research initiative in close consultation with WRI India and various other stakeholders in Punjab. (The EcoCity-region initiative is aimed to reimagine Indian City-Regions through an approach that leads to both ecologically sensitive development (development integrating conservation, sustainable management and restoration of ecosystem) and economic development while being climate resilient, inclusive and thriving)
  • Coordinate with the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) and Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar (MCJ) for executing various activities planned under the subject research initiative.
  • Undertaking and/or supervising on-site project activities such as collection and management of primary and secondary data etc.
  • Assist in organizing meetings/ consultations with various stakeholders such as relevant ministries/ departments, technical experts, civil society groups, media etc.
  • Support in drafting and translating technical notes, letters and other research or communication outreach materials as required to initiate communication with project partners or stakeholders, seek government approvals with respect to the subject project execution.
  • Assist in monitoring local activity progresses and highlight gaps, delays, if any, to internal and/ or external reporting line as deemed appropriate. Also, assist in developing troubleshooting/ remedial measures to deal with such local gaps/ delays.
  • Keeping track and oversight of all relevant local financial transactions and disbursal and their reporting as per the stipulated WRI India working manual.
  • Assist in developing relevant local deliverables as needed by the PMIDC and MCJ from time to time.
  • Provide technical support to the larger project activities including assessment, analysis, reporting and presentation of findings to local stakeholders.
  • Day-to-day coordination with PMIDC and MCJ (and any other relevant stakeholders) and relationship management as needed for better execution of various activities planned under the subject project.
  • Organizing various events or local forums, workshops, conferences etc. based on project need and relevance.
  • Assist in organising and administering technical trainings and capacity building to various stakeholders on various Government missions such as AMRUT 2.0, Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission and Smart Cities Mission.

Qualifications and requirements we seek: 

  • Master’s degree in water policy and governance/ urban planning/ urban infrastructure/ public policy or a related relevant discipline is desirable.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in planning, implementation and management of largescale action research projects on water resilience, urban planning, urban development, urban infrastructure, urban water policy and governance, climate change adaptation, water sensitive urban design implementation etc.
  • Fluency in English, Hindi and Punjabi languages.
  • Should have demonstrated experience in coordination, stakeholder relationship management and task management.
  • Should have experience in working with the Government/ ministries/ departments and other non-government stakeholders such as local academic/ research institutes, civil society organizations etc.
  • Working knowledge of public policy, Government procedures and guidelines.
  • Experience primary and secondary data collection.
  • Detail oriented, able to manage multiple priorities, ensure highest standards and consistency of work
  • Demonstrated experience conducting formal and informal trainings and capacity building
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working effectively and respectfully in diverse teams and communities around the globe.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, take initiative and accomplish work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong critical thinking capabilities with an ability to rapidly assess situational needs, develop problem solving strategies, and implement sustainable solutions. 

Location: Chandigarh/ Jalandhar, India 

Duration: Term Hire (Initially for 2 years full-time and potentially extendable for another 1 year based on mutual agreement)Start Date: At the earliest. 

Salary and Benefits:  11,00,000 INR to 13,00,000 INR CTC Per annum

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
