Job description

You will be passionately committed to the environment, naturally identify potential risks and opportunities, and work effectively within teams to get things done. Your development is important to us, so we often support further training to meet your needs and job requirements.
You’ll work closely with our Water, Land and Biodiversity teams within West Midlands and support our national teams as we deliver relevant policy and processes. You will also help deliver our strategic plans, which includes how we connect with catchment-based groups.
These posts are for Water Quality Planning Specialists working with water companies and internal teams to reduce the impacts from sewage discharges and other nutrient emissions into the environment. Collaboratively these roles will focus on: –
• Water company strategic plans, price review and asset management plans
• Sewage treatment works and sewerage network processes. Knowledge of Urban Pollution Management standards is a bonus.
• Measures to protect the water quality of diffuse pollution sources
• Responding to water quality permit consultations
• Supporting local and national working groups and projects, this includes our work with catchment-based groups and river partnerships
• Advising and facilitating resolution of complex or contentious issues
• Responding to planning and development consultations

The team

The West Midland’s Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) team are a dispersed team of technical experts that specialise in water quality, water resources and catchment planning. Working with Area operational teams, National policy makers and other stakeholders we shape and produce the environmental plans that drive forwards West Midland’s Area priorities.
Our friendly team of specialists are at the heart of environmental decision making, facilitating integrated actions to solve complex problems.

Experience/skills required

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of our business and environmental activities and have strong IT skills, can demonstrate specialist technical leadership.
You should be qualified to degree level or higher in a relevant environmental discipline. Membership of, or working towards a membership of, a relevant professional institute (e.g. CIWEM) is desirable. Ideally, you will be experienced in:-
• Data analysis/research and/or modelling tools and techniques
• Gathering, maintaining, quality-assuring data and using a variety of techniques to present data/information in a convincing and engaging way
• Ability to translate guidance and policy areas into language suitable for the audience
• Self-motivated and ability to work under own initiative, and as part of a larger, cross-functional team. You’ll have good skills in prioritising and delivering work to required standards.
• You’ll have good organisational skills/discipline and the ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate own work

Description
As an Integrated Environment Planning Specialist in Water Quality you will have a fair degree of autonomy and therefore you will be required to take decisions and solve problems as a matter of course – sometimes related to processes we use and sometimes in relation to technical data.

Description
Describe a time when you have either produced or audited a numerical model, or analysed data, to forecast the state of the environment.

Role specific license requirements: A full UK driving licence would be advantageous
