WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Policy Specialist supports The Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals by developing and implementing TNC Colombia policy strategies through interactions and stewardship with decision and policy-makers and key stakeholders at the national and subnational levels, under the leadership and guidance of the Senior Policy Advisor of TNC Colombia. 
The Policy Specialist under the direction and coordination with the Senior Policy Advisor of TNC Colombia plans, implements, and engages actors at the sub-national or national level to affect public and/or corporate policy to further the Conservancy’s mission, managing broader working agendas and a dynamic and evolving environment. Duties include daily contact and develop strategic partnership with key stakeholders on matters related to administrative, legislative, and/or corporate actions for policy advocacy to scale up conservation goals, develop technical inputs and outreach material, coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations. They influence the outcome of policy and/or corporate initiatives at the international, country, sub-national, and local levels and develops strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and industry to advance the organization’s conservation agenda.
Contract is for 1 year with the possibility of renewal.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU

The Policy Specialist will, under the leadership and guidance of the Senior Policy Advisor of TNC Colombia:

  •     Contribute with policy input and strategic expertise to implement TNC Colombia conservation strategies.  
  •     Supports the design and implementation of a policy strategy, identify a road map, assess strategic partnerships, develop outreach tactic, to insert conservation strategies, technical frameworks, system change and related tools into decision-making processes in Colombia. 
  •     Build/develop/maintain/strengthen relations with key stakeholders to implement conservation goals. 
  •     Support a monitoring, evaluation and learning tool for policy strategies, and report policy lessons.
  •     Conduct policy research and write narratives and analytical documents as well as policy briefs and strategic communications to increase interest and engagement in TNC’s work.
  •     Provide policy considerations in international agreements’ negotiations.
  •     Support TNC Colombia’s call of proposals, projects planning and implementation by delivering specific policy objectives in the framework of conservation projects.
  •     Build and facilitate internal networks, coordinate meetings, agendas, and presentations with TNC internal staff at global, regional, and local levels to incorporate relevant input to policy work in Colombia. 
  •     Facilitate/participate/collaborate in dialogue with different stakeholders, as well as the realization of events or other related activities.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, law, economics, government relations or related field and at least 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English. 
  • Experience in advocacy strategies with business, government, or legislative staff.
  • Experience with written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
  • Experience in designing and implementing complex projects, setting, and meeting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
  • Experience working in broader working agendas and in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Experience working with corporate or NGO partners, and government agencies.
  • Experience making decisions independently with little or no opportunity for management collaboration or oversight.
     

Desired Qualification

  • Experience in advocacy for transformation of agribusinesses sector and/or innovative finance for conservation may be highly appreciated.
