Position Overview
The Harris research group is seeking a student to assist with collecting samples for water quality assessment in Kansas lakes with limnology equipment and in-lake sensors. The student may also assist with laboratory analyses of water quality samples, such as collecting and analyzing harmful algal bloom (HAB) data or sediment samples.
Job Description
100% – Investigate and sample physical, chemical, and biological factors related to water quality in Kansas Waterbodies via on-lake and shoreline water sampling.
Required Qualifications
1. Interest in learning about water quality, harmful algal blooms, and/or environmental research.
2. Previous experience collecting water and sediment samples from Kansas water bodies.
3. Experience in Microsoft Excel and Word.
4. Clear communication, superb time management and work ethic, and the ability to follow instructions.
5. Driver’s License
**During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with water quality sensors and equipment
2. Experience sampling Clinton or Marion reservoirs
3. Experience with high-frequency water-quality buoys samplers
4. Should be able to lift 50lbs
