Community and Outreach

We are looking to hire an editor with a background in social sciences to assist in producing high-quality outputs based on the research done at the centre. The ideal candidate should be able to handle a wide range of material, from op-eds to academic papers, and have a good sense of how to disseminate evidence-based strategies and adapt to varying contexts.

The Community and Outreach team brings together stakeholders to help WELL Labs scale science-based solutions for society and the environment. We support the other initiatives with communicating their work effectively to bridge the gap between research and social impact. 

The job involves

  1. Editing research outputs such as academic articles, reports, policy briefs to ensure clarity and consistency in style. The ideal candidate should be able to handle large drafts and carry out all forms of edits – from structural to final proof and formatting
  2. Having a clear understanding of what a strong and accessible research paper entails and ideating with researchers to identify compelling narratives while maintaining accuracy.
  3. Keeping track of calls for papers from relevant journals and guiding researchers to structure papers in accordance with submission guidelines.
  4. Working closely with researchers to distil their work into more accessible formats such as op-eds, data stories and blogs.
  5. Coordinating with partners across the globe to track project deliverables and engagement initiatives.
  6. Creating an annual calendar of conferences that WELL Labs researchers could participate in or contribute to.
  7. Working with the editorial manager to put together training materials and periodically updating publication processes and ethics.
  8. Working with designers to create accessible designed outputs including infographics and social media content to ensure its dissemination.
  9. Using tools like Canva and Google Slides to create simple graphics, report layouts and videos.
  10. Support with organisation of workshops and webinars that bring together key stakeholders. 
  11. Liaising with filmmakers and working with the team to create video scripts for shoots.
  12. Developing concept notes for podcasts and pitch episodes, guests and topics to relevant shows

Preferred qualifications

  1. 5 years of relevant work experience, i.e. candidate with a background in journalism, research communication.
  2. Bachelors or Masters degree in journalism/mass communication or environmental studies or fields related to the areas WELL Labs focuses on
  3. Proficient in writing and editing a wide range of outputs.
  4. Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to independently execute multiple ongoing projects
  5. Ability to distil academic and research work into more accessible forms of writing
  6. Strong verbal, written and presentation skills to communicate effectively
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with cross functional stakeholders
  8. Fluency in Kannada, Telugu or Hindi is desirable.

What we offer

We offer a flexible and remote working environment, with quarterly meetings where the team meets together. We focus less on hours worked and more on the outputs produced and the quality of those outputs. We are an interdisciplinary team, and we work on problems with direct implications for on-ground impact.

Location: We are open to remote working, with travel as required.

Compensation: INR 10,00,000 per annum
