Job Summary
Overview . The University of Utah seeks a postdoctoral fellow to work in an area related to society, water, and climate. Possible research topics will span environment, water, climate, sustainability issues, or climate change education and communication. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of University of Utah mentors, and could be housed in whichever home department is most appropriate. The initial appointment will be one year, with the opportunity of renewal for a second year, subject to satisfactory progress. This opportunity represents a collaboration between the Society, Water, and Climate program ( SWC , https://climate.utah.edu/people/ ), the Global Change and Sustainability Center ( GCSC , https://environment.utah.edu/faculty/ ), and the Sustainability Office at the University of Utah. Postdoctoral projects will include independent climate-related research, opportunities to help implement the Universities anticipated 2023 Climate Action Plan ( https://sustainability.utah.edu/climatecommitment/ ) , engagement with the UC3 fellows program ( https://sites.google.com/secondnature.org/uc3/initiatives/fellows-program ), and university level teaching experience if desired. In addition, the postdoc will have access to mentoring and training through the University of Utah’s Postdoctoral Affairs Office ( https://postdocs.utah.edu/ ).
Expected background . Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences, or science communication discipline related to society, water, and climate. Priority in reviewing applications will be given to applicants who have demonstrated interest in bridging across disciplines, complementing and building on existing strengths, and are amenable to training in a team setting (i.e., more than a single faculty mentor).

Deadline and start date . The review of applications will begin on January 15, 2023. However, we will continue to receive and to review applications until the position is filled. The appointment start date is flexible, but our preference is by July, 2023.
