Ocean Infinity is seeking a GIS Specialist responsible for creating, designing, and implementing geospatial systems to enable web based portals and applications. Familiar with geospatial environments like ESRI suite, profound understanding of how to input and make use of data, and poses the ability of programming and knowledge of IT-related roles. The GIS Specialist is expected to go above and beyond and be overly familiar with different tech and computer systems used within the organization related to this work.

What will you do:

  • Support the development and management of GIS Portals, environment and applications that are based on growing and improving business demands;
  • Perform presentation, visualisation, modifying or storing of geospatial data;
  • Develop and manage control quality standards for GIS environment;
  • Oversee data flow, management, and distribution activities that are aimed at supporting GIS use cases;
  • Support and participate in the designing and development of the geospatial databases;
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate geospatial documentation for reference purposes;
  • Up to date with the latest developments in the GIS field;
  • Efficiently manage geospatial systems and develop effective GIS applications;
  • Collaborate with engineering, technical and software departments as well as supporting product development ;
  • Work closely with other IT experts and act as a single point of contact for internal departments.

Who you are:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a discipline such as Computer Science, Geography, or Engineering;
  • GIS knowledge and several years of proven development experience;
  • High analytical thinking to effectively analyze information and databases;
  • Ability to pay particular attention to details to work with geospatial data and also analyze information;
  • Experienced in the ESRI environment
    • ESRI Desktop, ESRI Portal and ESRI ArcGIS Online including
    • ESRI Enterprise (ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Image Server)
    • ESRI extension packages such as
      • Spatial Analyst,
      • 3DAnalyst and
      • Data Reviewer;
  • Familiar with other software like QGIS and Global Mapper;
  • In-depth knowledge of geospatial databases ranging from File GDB to SDE and beyond (SQL Server and PostGIS etc);
  • Knowledge of ETL (Evaluate, Transform, Load) systems, especially FME Desktop & FME Server;
  • Knowledge of Python, ArcPy and familiarity with Java or C++ is an asset;
  • Analytical mind with strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra) including a problem-solving talent
  • Thoughtful, thorough and conscientious;
  • Interested in others and strives for the best for the team;
  • Ability to take ownership and engagement in the work;
  • Integrity, credibility and maturity for confidential issues;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with diplomacy;
  • Ability to work as a trusted advisor with senior stakeholders;
