Role

Alberta Parks – Central Region is looking for an enthusiastic person who is an innovative problem solver that loves to rise up to a challenge. If you have experience in water and waste water management, an interest in enabling Albertans to access and safely enjoy facilities in provincial parks and recreation areas, and thrive in a collaborative work environment, then this opportunity to join the Alberta Parks team may be for you. 

As the Regional Water and Wastewater Specialist, you provide technical and regulatory compliance support for potable water and wastewater system operations throughout the Central Region. You will work closely and collaboratively with the site-based teams responsible for the day-to-day operation of these systems. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination of major repairs to water and wastewater systems in response to system breakdowns and failures
  • Water and wastewater system preventative maintenance planning, coordination, and tracking
  • Conducting inspections to provide technical and regulatory compliance support for potable and wastewater system operations.
  • Identifying capital maintenance and renewal priorities and providing input into various facility and capital planning initiatives in relation to water and wastewater systems
  • Managing contracts

Qualifications


Education and experience:

A related technical diploma and two years of directly applicable experience; equivalency of one year of education for one year experience or one year experience for one year of education may be considered


Desirable qualifications:

  • Successful completion of AWWOA* Small Water Systems Operations course or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of AWWOA* Small Wastewater Systems Operations course or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in the following areas:
    • Operation of regulated water and/or wastewater systems
    • Performing inspections of water or wastewater treatment systems
    • Project management
    • Preventative maintenance program implementation

Salary

Salary range is based on a 40 hour work week. 

$2,503.25 to $3,278.45 biweekly ($65,334 – $85,567/year)

Notes

  • This position is a full-time, permanent role
  • The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week
  • Valid Class-5 (or equivalent) Driver’s Licence is required
  • Final candidates may be required to pass a security screening
