The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

 The ICRC is mandated to work in affected countries by armed conflict or other situations of violence. The ICRC is present in over 80 countries and has some 19,000-field staff.

 In 2014, the ICRC expanded its presence to Ukraine. There are more than 600 ICRC staff working in Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Odesa.

The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fill the position of Water and Habitat Assistant in its sub-delegation in Kyiv.

Purpose:

Water and Habitat Assistant supports the WatHab team to plan and implements engineering projects within the scope of the ICRC’s water and habitat assistance objectives, with supervision from the head of department. S/he helps to carry out the needs assessments and surveys. S/he is responsible for the administrative support to the team to ensure that documentation is completed efficiently and accurately.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Performs various office work which requires computer knowledge and secretarial skills
  • Provide general administrative support to the Water and Habitat Team
  • Contributes to the department reporting in coordination with the reporting focal point;
  • Prepares the Memorandum of understanding contract package based on the documents provided by the engineers 
  • Translates from one or more languages into English, Ukrainian or Russian, and vice versa
  • Ensure information flow within the Department / Sub-Delegation
  • Creates and maintains paper or electronic files up-to-date
  • Support Engineers in field activities

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ukrainian citizenship or holding permanent resident status in Ukraine;
  • High school diploma or equivalent training. ….
  • Good command (spoken and written) of English, Ukrainian and Russian
  • High school diploma or equivalent training.
  • 2 years’ experience in a secretarial position in a similar field, preferably within the ICRC.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint and IBM Lotus Notes.
  • Capacity to adhere to and to implement procedures
  • good communication skills 
  • Rigor, method and analytical skills
  • Experience with humanitarian organizations and basic engineering knowledge will be an asse.
