Offer Description
Environmental, economic and societal security are interdependently related to the availability and fair access to natural resources, in particular water, land and energy. All these Nexus elements are i) highly dependent on each other, ii) crucial for human well-being, iii) impacting social cohesion and source of geopolitical conflicts. In the Mediterranean region the water scarcity and land degradation do not match to sustainable agricultural practices and often the protection of ecosystems is in conflict with economic growth. The research activity aims to contribute to the WEFE Nexus models of the NEXUS-NESS project, dedicated to producing data and scenarios to address the challenges of the Nexus Ecosystem Lab (NEL). Particular attention is given to physically based water, crops and ecosystem resource management and scenario analysis, integrated to simulate the effects of climate, hydrological and environmental changes and to analyze water-agriculture-ecosystem interdependencies.
