WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Aquaculture Spatial Scientist provides technical and scientific support for science-based conservation initiatives in The Nature Conservancy’s Global Aquaculture Program, with an emphasis on delivering analyses and decision-making tools to support siting industry activities sustainably. They will conduct aquaculture siting and suitability analyses in marine and freshwater ecosystems across all sectors of the aquaculture industry and support effective use of these analyses through development and implementation of reports, publications, communication materials and tools that can be used by industry and government. This role will collect and manage aquatic ecosystem, industry, and social data from a wide range of sources and databases, including remotely sensed as well as field data. Working collaboratively with other programs in The Nature Conservancy and external partners, they process this data using ArcGIS and other software as required, to generate unique datasets that assist interpretation of the suitability of aquaculture at local, regional and national scales.

The Aquaculture Spatial Scientist will also contribute to delivering a broader range of science-based projects in the program, including desktop synthesizes of ecosystem services associated with aquaculture, the development of methods to integrate spatial and ecological data sets, and the preparation of scientific publications. They may travel, including internationally and remotely, to visit project sites, support collection or ground-truthing of data, meet with partners, and present the results of their work.

This position reports to the Global Aquaculture Scientist in The Nature Conservancy’s Global Aquaculture Program. Additionally, this is a term-limited position (18 months with the possibility of an extension).
