Position Description
Lead the development and delivery of world-class environmental education programming for the LGA. The LGA’s “Education for Action” program translates basic science and research advances in fields related to freshwater protection into compelling digital and experiential learning programs. The Director leads a team to design and deliver programming that connects across three key constituent groups. The team’s goal is to provide knowledge and skills that drive actionable outcomes to protect the water quality of Lake George, establishing a bold new model for education designed to inform and engage the diverse constituency required for measurable results and sustaining progress.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver on an annual operating plan for Education for Action that achieves measurable progress on key learning outcomes.
- Manage a full-time environmental educator.
- Recruit, coach, and manage a hybrid-located team of contracted environmental educators, instructional designers, and content developers.
- Lead the ongoing development of integrated video and digital content, live experiential learning events, interactive exhibits, and physical materials in learning pathways that engage, educate and mobilize constituents to action.
- Lead “Lake Protector Series” programming for property owners and business owners in the watershed as detailed in the Education for Action Design Plan.
- Lead “Floating Classroom” programming for visitors to the watershed and students in area schools as detailed in the Education for Action Design Plan.
- Collaborate with the Lake George Waterkeeper and other LGA staff on “Summit Series” Programming for Water Quality Professionals, including Municipal Officials and Staff, Legislators, Architects, and Engineers as detailed in the Education for Action Design Plan.
- Collaborate with the scientists at the LGA and the Jefferson Project (LGA partnership with IBM and RPI) on citizen science programs and other content that connects and translates advanced research sponsored by the LGA for public education and action.
- Collaborate with the communications team to connect with and promote programs for targeted constituencies and diverse media outlets.

Experience, Expertise, and Education
- BA Degree in a STEM field required, MS Degree in STEM field in science or engineering preferred, with 5 years’ experience.
- Experience managing projects and personnel
- Expertise in scientific communication, with a focus on digital content
- Familiarity with digital and experiential learning design
