2.Context

Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF) is registered in India as a not for profit company under Chapter 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. JSCF, is an associate member of WaterAid International and uses the brand name ‘WaterAid’ in India. WaterAid India seeks to improve access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene for everyone, everywhere.

WaterAid India’s (WAI) country office is based in New Delhi with State Offices in Bhopal, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Patna and Lucknow. We currently work in 11+ states across the country.

WAI is implementing a project in Bengaluru slums to cover marginalized communities. The project aims to provide them sustainable access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion in the target locations, by strengthening services, systems and capacity of local institutions.  The project aims to work very closely with consortium partners, local government, other NGOs and networks to demonstrate WASH compliant communities.

3.Responsibilities

A. Program Management

  • Ensure project objectives and targets are met effectively within timelines
  • Plan monthly and quarterly targets and ensure their delivery through team
  • Undertake intensive and regular field visits to slums to supervise project implementation
  • Conduct periodic review meetings with the team to ensure delivery is as per schedule
  • Lead, manage and motivate the team, creating an environment that enables staff to maximise their potential and facilitates high performing team
  • Report the activities and financial progress as per the agreed schedule or requirements
  • Preparation of monthly updates and brief reports
  • Lead in Planning (get technical and engineering drawing and designs) and implementation of hardware components as per the plan.
  • Adhere to technical standards and technical guidelines and policies in the project
  • To undertake any other activity/ work as directed by State Program Director (SPD)

B. Advocacy and stakeholder engagement

  • Take lead in conceptualizing and organizing state/ district level consultations /workshops / conferences as required in the project
  • Working with WaterAid’s communications Team (through the SPD) to ensure effective documentation of the work being implemented
  • Undertake evidence based campaign and advocacy

C. Donor and Stakeholder Management

  • Map all the stakeholders and design WASH stakeholder engagement strategy
  • Maintain excellent working relations with the Consortium partners and teams
  • Maintain excellent working relations with city level government departments for collective planning, demand representation, obtaining permissions and leveraging resources
  • Lead the team to work with city level and slum level collectives and federations to develop settlement-based interventions and solutions
  • Engage and train wash entrepreneurs in innovative service mechanisms
  • Facilitate interface between target community, government institutions and service providers
  • Represent WaterAid in consortium meetings regularly in consultation with Team Leader
  • Conduct periodic review meetings with the teams working/supporting the project

D. Program Reporting

  • Produce high quality report to be shared with the donors and other stakeholders
  • Ensure adequate inputs for the periodic reporting and progress update presentations including blogs, success stories, anecdotes and photos
  • Periodic review and verification of MIS data
  • Support Project officer to identify training needs of stakeholders and rollout of CB plan
  • Support Technical officer in plan and execution of hardware infrastructure
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Team Leader

4.Eligibilities and requirements

Education – Essential

  • Post-graduation (or equivalent) qualification in one of the following areas: social sciences, development, economics, water/natural resource management or related
  • Experience of working in urban geographies on WASH, in coordination/ dialogue with city administration and other stakeholders
  • Between 10-12 years of relevant work experience in similar organizational/functional context
  • Good communications and presentation skills – write, read and speak in English & Kannada.

Education – Desirable

  • Qualification in water, sanitation, hygiene education
  • Specific training on conducting participatory trainings

Other specifications

  • Managing programs in a multi-stakeholder environment, managing diverse set of partners
  • Experience working with donor funded project
  • Strong organizational and time Management skills
  • Proven strategic, conceptual and analytical skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated individual capable of engaging with various stakeholders
  • A self-starter, able to work independently
  • Ability to travel extensively
