Position Information

The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership seeks a Principal Restoration Ecologist to identify, develop, and implement habitat restoration projects in the lower Columbia River. Specifically, this is a full-time position that works with landowners and other stakeholders to evaluate sites for restoration; collects and analyzes field data; identifies restoration alternatives; participates in engineering design; secures funding and permits; develops project budgets and timelines; submits reports; oversees construction; and helps collect action effectiveness data. The position has several large, complicated projects scheduled for construction in 2024 and 2025, so a large focus of this position will be on assisting with the competitive bid process and providing oversight of construction and revegetation at the restoration sites. The Principal Restoration Ecologist position requires five years’ experience scoping, developing, and implementing on-the-ground habitat restoration projects, including construction oversight and reforestation. We place a priority on applications from candidates who come from or have experience with diverse populations and underserved communities, including communities of color and low-income communities.

This position is based out of our Portland, Oregon office with hybrid remote work opportunities and work regularly taking place in a field setting that requires regular travel throughout the study area. It requires occasional early morning starts and some weekend availability. Field work occurs in wetlands or on the river, in various weather conditions, and includes navigating difficult terrain on foot and carrying field gear to sites.
