This is an opportunity to join the dedicated and supportive Aboriginal Water Unit in an ongoing role as Senior Project Officer. The team works closely with Traditional Owners across Victoria to create opportunities to increase self-determination and facilitate Traditional Owner access to water.

In this role you will manage funding agreements with Traditional Owners and other partners, have the opportunity to grow relationships with Traditional Owners groups and the water sector, and work closely with regionally-based Aboriginal water officers to support their water aspirations and responsibilities.

While the team is based in Melbourne CBD, we are a truly flexible team and are open to supporting other work locations in Victoria for the right candidate.

This position has been approved for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. It is an identified position under the ā€˜special measures’ section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply for this position.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • The position requires an in-depth understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and a proven ability to engage with Aboriginal communities effectively and sensitively. 
  • Applicants are required to have demonstrated experience working with Traditional Owners, preferably related to natural resource management in Victoria. 
  • A qualification in natural resource management or water is desirable. 

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
