Our Water Group is recruiting to create a talent pool for Senior Water Policy Officers to fill temporary and ongoing roles that may become available for filling over the next eighteen months in the Water Policy team.

Senior Water Policy Officers are instrumental in leading the development of policies relating to water management and regulation in an environment of wide-ranging stakeholder interests and a complex political landscape. They are responsible for providing expert policy advice, and preparing information on water management initiatives and legislation, Ministerial briefing notes and Cabinet submissions on water management issues. Senior Water Policy Officers play a key role in scoping and managing the delivery of policies and enabling the implementation of approved policies.

A key aspect of this role will be to guide policy officers and support staff to successfully deliver policy priorities and initiatives. Senior Water Policy Officers may also represent the department at consultations with industry, landholders, community groups and other key stakeholders to gain input, to identify concerns and policy issues, and to develop effective policy solutions.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be a highly motivated policy professional with exceptional communication skills, allowing you to maintain the confidence and support of stakeholders through the delivery of accurate policy advice. It is essential that you have proven experience in developing and implementing Government policies, including knowledge of Cabinet and legislative processes.

You will be a critical thinker who can adapt and thrive in a fast-paced and high pressure environment and will be confident in exercising autonomy and working collaboratively when responding to and resolving sensitive policy issues. An ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the State and Federal government’s water management agenda and the legislative framework for water management in NSW is essential and existing comprehensive knowledge of this framework will be highly regarded.
