About the Project

Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) program is implemented by the Watershed Development Department (DSCWD), Govt. of Odisha to “Strengthen capacities of national and state institutions to adopt improved watershed management for increasing farmers’ resilience and support value chains in selected watersheds of Odisha. Around 169 watersheds across five pilot districts namely Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Nayagada, Deogarh, and Koraput have been selected for the study. Sambodhi will evaluate the socio-economic impacts of the project based on data from around 4000 households using descriptive and econometric data analysis to provide comprehensive site-specific cadastral level information useful for appropriate Natural Resources Management (NRM) planning at farm level and integrated development of the area. Sambodhi will also support the design and collect data for the impact evaluation comprising –

1.      Listing

2.      Baseline assessment

3.      Midline evaluation

4.      Endline evaluation

The impact evaluation will be conducted across the five pilot districts (169 MWSs) to investigate the impact of biophysical investment on public and private land as well as farmer-level interventions including LRI training, complementary interventions in the form of value chain development via Farmer Producer Collectives (FPCs) and livelihood protection investments via SHGs.

Job Title – Research Manager for the Impact Evaluation of the Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) program
Job Location –The base location for this position is Bhubaneswar. As a part of this assignment, the candidate must travel to different parts (remote locations) of Odisha. Also, the candidate must be able to travel anywhere in the country based on the requirements of other projects undertaken by Sambodhi.
 Language – The candidate must be fluent in Oriya and willing to relocate to Bhubaneswar as the base location.

Experience Range: 3 – 5 years

Any graduation, and MBA/PGDM Other Management, M.A Economics, M.A Statistics, M.A Political Science, M.A Other,

Job Responsibilities:

Essential Functions :

The candidate will perform the following key functions:

  • Preparation and submission of all project deliverables (inception reports, concept notes, study tools/interview guidelines, pilot reports, survey completion reports, status update reports, PowerPoint presentations, findings reports, infographics, etc.)
  • Prepare and lead the presentation(s) on the findings of the study to World Bank, DSCWD and the Government of Odisha teams
  • Analyze both qualitative and quantitative data (using R/Stata, SPSS, ATLAS.ti/NVivo)
  • Must have excellent MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint skills
  • Coordinate with District Process Monitors in data collection/other relevant field activities on other assignments in Odisha.
  • Attend all meetings and coordinate with World Bank and DSCWD teams.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data for at least 20-30 days every quarter while adhering to the standard ethical protocols and field manuals/guides
  • Travel to Delhi-NCR, training locations, or any other locations in Odisha and project states of other assignments (need-based)
  • Conduct trainings for survey teams for at least 5-7 days as and when required in Bhubaneswar and other locations.
  • Ensure timely data collection, data monitoring, share status updates and submit cleaned data files regularly to the data team
  • Translate/Transcribe documents/data in Hindi and English
  • Report to Sambodhi Noida research team regularly
  • Liaison with DSCWD & World Bank representatives and Sambodhi research team
  • Manage Odisha Project office, expenses incurred by District teams, travel plans, and other logistics associated with the project
  • Other relevant deliverables of the assignment
