What can you expect as junior advisor researcher groundwater management? 

As junior researcher/advisor groundwater management you will participate in different applied research projects within the Groundwater Management department. Together with your new colleagues you will get the chance to expand your knowledge base, network and entrepreneurial skills. Your (project) manager will coach you to further develop your professional and personal skill set and give you the opportunity to put these skills into practice. 

The projects you will work on will typically entail: 

  • Assisting in applied research and advisory projects on issues in the field of groundwater availability, saltwater intrusion, artificial recharge in the Netherlands and abroad; 
  • Working in a team exploring smart solutions and supporting integrated planning processes, based on groundwater system analyses e.g., by applying numerical models (i.e. Modflow), machine learning and/or data driven models;
  • Advising organisations such as Waterboards and national governments on the management and development of groundwater and other subsoil resources. 

Your position will be based at Deltares Utrecht in the Netherlands.  

Your profile: 

You are curious and want to understand the world around you, to find solutions for today’s issues. Furthermore you:  

  • have successfully finished a Master of Science (MSc) in (geo)hydrology, civil engineering, earth sciences or related disciplines; 
  • are recently graduated, or you have a maximum of 5 years work experience; 
  • have the competence to develop innovative solutions for complex problems, based on in-depth understanding of geohydrological processes; 
  • have affinity with the development of numerical models and/or the application of machine learning techniques; 
  • you speak English fluently. A second language is appreciated.
