Role
Are you looking for a way to innovatively use your environmental management experience and relationship building skills to provide advice, direction and support to collaborative delivery of the provincial drinking water and wastewater environmental program? This position is for you!
The Director, Drinking Water and Wastewater, is responsible for the delivery of outcome-based, provincial level programs addressing drinking water, municipal wastewater and industrial wastewater. This position is responsible for providing advice, assistance and support to the Executive Director and regional managers on a variety of strategic policy and operational requirements. As a key leader within the branch leadership team, you will be leading a diversity of staff, including technical experts, to ensure safe and secure drinking water for Albertans and the proper management of wastewater. The provincial focus for this position necessitates the focus on supporting staff throughout multiple locations and working with regional compliance and approvals program managers and staff.
Drawing on your collaborative and effective leadership style, the Director provides standards, technical and educational material, and influences environmental excellence programs within Alberta and through participation on federal committees related to drinking water and wastewater.

- The ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships at all levels both internal and external to the organization.

As the provincial expert on water/wastewater quality and infrastructure standards, the position also represents the Alberta perspective on a number of high-profile water-related committees.
Qualifications
Education:
A degree in resource management, environmental science, environmental/natural resources, public health or a related field plus a minimum of seven years of related management experience is required.
Knowledge of municipal drinking water, municipal wastewater, drinking water and wastewater certification programs and the “systems” in which they function is a strong focus.
Comprehensive knowledge of the social, economic and environmental implications of drinking water and wastewater issues, and needs of clients and stakeholders is required.
Equivalencies will be considered. Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Additional assets:
Preference will also be considered for candidates that have:
- Extensive working knowledge of municipal drinking water, municipal wastewater, drinking water and the wastewater certification program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the department’s business plan goals, strategic priorities, issues, provincial and regional programs and resources regulatory frameworks.
- Government processes, policies and programs along with a working knowledge of various applications and systems.

Salary
$4,088.42 – $5,191.71 bi-weekly ($106,707 – 135,503/year)
