For the team Ecohydrology we are looking for a junior researcher Ecology. Are you the curious, entrepreneurial and motivated researcher who wants to work with us on diverse research projects in the field of water and nature, and at the dynamic intersection of research and practice? About the position

You will work on various projects at the interface of ecology and hydrology. Examples include protection and restoration of nature and/or water catchment areas, nitrogen problems, and the effects of drainage, (drinking) water extraction and climate change on nature.

Your duties will include:

  • Conducting (hydro)ecological fieldwork in, predominantly, Dutch (nature) areas;
  • Performing biogeochemical laboratory work;
  • Collecting and processing data for data analysis and/or ecological modeling;
  • Performing ecological modeling;
  • (Co)writing reports and giving (project) presentations;

Your profile

You are a recently graduated (hydro)ecologist with good research skills and affinity with hydrology. You are naturally curious, entrepreneurial and incisive, and you are driven to contribute to a more sustainable society.

Further:

  • You have a completed academic degree relevant to this position, for example landscape, systems or hydro-ecology;
  • You have a good knowledge of Dutch/Northwest European higher plants and vegetation types;
  • You have practical experience with field research on vegetation, geochemistry, and ideally, hydrology;
  • You are able to operate independently, but also as part of a team;
  • You know how to plan and organize work well, are creative and innovative;
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written;
  • It is an advantage if you have an affinity with ecological modeling.

The team

Team Ecohydrology investigates the influence of climate change, nutrients and (water)management on biodiversity and groundwater recharge, among other things, and studies the effect of recovery measures. In doing so, we contribute to the achievement of nature objectives and to a sustainable freshwater supply. Specifically for the urban environment, we look at “blue-green” solutions to counteract the effects of climate change. The team consists of 14 specialists with widely varying backgrounds and experience.
