IE University invites applications for three full-time, open rank, tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of 1) Global change, 2) Water Sciences, and 3) Climate Solutions.

The faculty members will join the Department of Environmental Sciences for Sustainability of the IE School of Science and Technology, starting on September 1st, 2023.

We are seeking to appoint experienced, ambitious, and highly motivated individuals whose research interests focus on:

  1. Global change: climate change, climate dynamics, atmosphere-ocean-land dynamics, climate and society, land uses change, anthropogenic carbon and oceans, sustainable oceans, global biogeochemical cycles, among others.
  2. Water sciences: water chemistry, global water cycle, land and ocean water resources, water contamination assessment, water cleaning technologies, water and energy, water and health, among others
  3. Climate Solutions: nature-based climate solutions, negative emissions technologies, ecosystem- based adaptation solutions, among others

As a new faculty member of the Department of Environmental Sciences for Sustainability you will be expected to stablish an outstanding and internationally recognized research program, and to attract external funding for research from governmental agencies and the industry. As a faculty member You will contribute to the development of our new BSc program on Environmental Sciences for Sustainability – BESS, throughout the delivery of classes, the advice of undergraduate students and the development of outreach and mentoring programs.

You will also be involved in some administrative duties, which may include participation in department and program committees, creation of new BSc and MSc programs, participation in program accreditation processes, among others.

ABOUT IE UNIVERSITY:

IE University is an internationally recognized institution originally founded as a business school. The university is comprised of schools of BusinessScience & TechnologyLawPolitics, Economics and Global Affairs, and Architecture & Design. The Department of Environmental Sciences for Sustainability is located at the Segovia Campus of the IE University. Segovia is a World-Heritage city, 30 minutes by high-speed train from Madrid.

The department and the IE School of Science and Technology count with a variety of facilities, which include several teaching and research labs.

As a faculty member of the BESS, you will find in Segovia the perfect environment to inspire your creativity while enjoining the beauty of one of the most remarkable world cultural heritage sites in Europe. You will also find several natural reserves like the Sierra de la Guadarrama, the San Ildefonso – El Espinar,  UNESCO Man and Biosphere reserve, among others. 

Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a PhD in a relevant discipline from a recognized university, by the date of the appointment. You must also have an exceptional track record of research achievements as evidenced by the publication in international high-ranked peer review journals, a strong and well stablished network of international scientific collaborations, and an extraordinary mentorship record, i.e. advise of undergraduate and graduate students, predocs and postdocs.

English is the official working and teaching language of the BESS and the IE University. Therefore, you are expected to have quasi-native English proficiency. Spanish proficiency will be a plus.

Exceptional candidates in other topics within the general research areas of environmental sciences and sustainability will also be considered.
