About Tualatin Riverkeepers

Tualatin Riverkeepers is a community-based organization that protects and restores Oregon’s Tualatin River watershed. We build watershed stewardship through engagement, advocacy, restoration, access, and education.

Position Description

Tualatin Riverkeepers is seeking a dynamic and outgoing Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to strengthen existing partnerships, develop new partnerships, and recruit volunteers with a passion for the work of TRK. This position will focus on connecting community stewardship needs with TRK’s mission and goals to create positive outcomes for the watershed. The Coordinator will recruit and train volunteers while organizing TRK’s key events over the year, including stewardship projects, Discovery Day, and the Green Heron fundraiser. The position will work closely with the River Experiences Program Coordinator and report to the TRK Executive Director.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Engage current and prospective volunteers, serving as the primary point of contact for individual and group volunteers.
  • Identify appropriate outreach opportunities and conduct community outreach via tabling, media releases, newsletter, and committees to recruit involvement in TRK volunteer activities.
  • Manage and organize TRK’s two major events, Discovery Day and the Green Heron fundraiser.
  • Work with partners throughout the watershed to identify and build stewardship opportunities, creating projects that utilize volunteers to address priority conservation and stewardship work.
  • Represent TRK on committees, at public events, and with select corporate and civic organizations in the watershed.
  • Build a Stewardship Crew Leader program, developing appropriate training for volunteers to build skills and experience to lead restoration and stewardship projects on their own.
  • Assist Executive Director in executing seasonal fundraising and membership campaigns.
  • Supervise volunteers and select staff, including AmeriCorps members, seasonal interns, and others as requested by Executive Director.

Qualifications include:

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, with an emphasis in environmental stewardship and restoration.
  • Knowledge of conservation issues and opportunities in the region, with a passion for TRK’s mission to protect and restore our watershed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Big picture vision, strategic thinking, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully mentor, learn from, coordinate, and collaborate with volunteers, colleagues, and partner organizations.
  • Unwavering commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and to providing equitable access to the power structures that allow all residents of our diverse watershed to participate in solutions.

Like all Tualatin Riverkeepers staff, the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator serves as a Tualatin Riverkeepers ambassador, helping community members to access, learn about, and love the river. Successful candidates will be able to articulate and demonstrate their qualifications, through formal work or lived experience. Tualatin Riverkeepers is an equal-opportunity employer, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, or in any other way unrelated to the job qualifications.
