You ‘d like to contribute as research support contributor? Join our Environmental Research and Innovation department

The Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department, made up of 200 life science, environmental science and information technology researchers and engineers, provides the interdisciplinary knowledge, expertise and technologies to lead solutions including the major environmental challenges facing society, such as climate change mitigation, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, and environmental pollution prevention and control.

The department relies on two cutting-edge platforms, the Biotechnologies and Environmental Analytics Platform and the Observatory for the Climate and the Environment, and the GreenTech Innovation Centre (GTIC): a one-stop-shop for the complete development of bio-based products and processes.

Within the ERIN department, the ‘Environmental Sensing and Modelling’ (ENVISION) unit is an interdisciplinary team of 50+ scientists, engineers, post-docs, and PhD candidates – organized in three complementary groups on catchment and eco-hydrology (CAT group), remote sensing and natural resources modelling (REMOTE group), and agro-environmental systems research (AGRO group). At the CAT group, we rely on a unique blend of experts in catchment hydrology, eco-hydrology, isotope hydrology, hydro-geochemistry, environmental chemistry, sediment transport and plant physiology for characterising the fluxes of water, matter and contaminants within and across the various compartments of the critical zone. We collaborate with our colleagues from the AGRO and REMOTE groups for leveraging the full potential offered by new in-situ and remote sensing technologies (some of them developed in-house) – providing data with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution, ultimately serving for the calibration and validation of newly designed forecasting and prediction tools of hydro- and agro-ecosystem responses to global change.

How will you contribute?

As the global change and technological developments force water resources management to adapt at breath-taking pace, your ambition is to support policy makers and create socio-economic value, as well as to be a partner in risk-taking and delivery of innovative solutions with short-, mid- and long-term impact.

With your proven ability to identify, champion and spearhead new technologies, you will make the CAT group thrive and navigate the opportunities and challenges of the climate crisis.

Capitalizing on your own expertise in hydrology (including hydrological processes research and quantitative/qualitative water management), you will leverage the CAT group’s rich blend of know-how in eco-hydrology, forest hydrology, isotope hydrology, water chemistry, sediment transport, plant-atmosphere interactions, and hydrological modelling for developing interdisciplinary and mission-driven water resources research.

Your managerial spirit and experience will give our multicultural team a boost.
