Research Engineer

LUT University’s School of Engineering Science is  looking for a research engineer for a permanent employment relationship. 

Your work will primarily be located at the Department of Separation Science of the LUT School of Engineering Science on the university’s Lappeenranta campus. The department also has laboratory facilities and analytical infrastructure on the Lahti campus and in the Mikkeli regional unit, and you will also be expected to perform work for these units. This means monthly travel days to Lahti and Mikkeli. You will be part of the department’s analysis and technical staff (support team) and work in close cooperation with the research groups. The laboratories in Lahti, Lappeenranta and Mikkeli boast a wide and comprehensive range of analysis equipment.

The Department of Separation Science is Finland’s largest academic research unit specializing in separation and purification technologies. The department does separation method-driven research in water purification, biorefining, mineral enrichment and metal refining. The department employs approximately 110 researchers and has over 370 students from over 35 countries. The department works in close cooperation with industry.

Your responsibilities will include tasks related to laboratory analyses especially in microscopy, for example SEM, TEM, CSLM, maintenance, safety work and general duties in the support services of the department. Therefore, skills in these areas are highly valued. Other analysis techniques, such as spectrometric analyses, are also valued. The work will include some teaching related to analysis for both students and researchers, and therefore, we value teaching skills and experience – especially in laboratory tutorials. You will work in close cooperation with members of the support team and the department in general, and therefore, cooperation and teamwork skills are appreciated.

We expect:

  • An applicable higher education degree (chemistry, chemical engineering, physics)
  • Good English skills; Finnish skills are an advantage
  • Skills in the use of modern analytics equipment and electrical tools and systems
  • Experience in analytics work is an advantage

Your salary will be defined in accordance with the university salary system for other staff, starting from level 9. Your salary will include a personal element based on job performance. The initial monthly salary will be roughly EUR 3800.

The work will start soon as possible, but the date is negotiable. The work will start with a six-month trial period.
