Role Description

An exciting opportunity for an established researcher in water and food systems to join our team of academics working in environmental and agricultural water resources management.

About the Role

The challenge of securing water and food security requires new knowledge and insights which can inform both agricultural and water management practices. We are expanding our activities in this critical area of science and innovation and are seeking an individual with a strong research background in the use of water for food production at river basin to global scales. This post provides an outstanding opportunity to develop your career with one of the UK’s foremost water research groups.

You will be expected to conduct high impact, internationally excellent research which explores the inter-sectoral trade-offs in physical and virtual water for food at multiple scales; develop a vibrant and sustainable research group by leading and participating in research bid proposals to attract grant funding; enhance the reputation of the Centre for Water, Environment and Development through multidisciplinary collaboration, and deliver high quality postgraduate-level teaching as part of our existing MSc programmes.

The post will support Cranfield’s existing research competencies in environmental and agricultural water management, including climate change and environmental impacts, water resources systems modelling, irrigation science and ecosystem services.

About You

You will have a PhD in a relevant subject linked to the use and management of water resources and their interaction with food systems. This could be from a broad perspective or more sector specific including agricultural, environmental, or water resources management. You will have experience of winning and managing research grants and working in multidisciplinary collaborations with academics and industry. You will have a track record of publishing high impact journal articles in one or more aspects of water resources, food and water policy, environmental economics, water resources or food systems. You will have a commitment to scientific rigour, a passion for solving applied problems, and enjoy engaging with experts and opinion-formers in academia, industry and government.
