Your new role

Reporting to the Principal Scientist, Freshwater, you will provide expert advice and guidance, and deliver programs that meet the needs of the EPA as a science-based regulator.  

You will communicate technical information to a range of audiences and deliver projects to address freshwater quality and freshwater pollution issues.  You will contribute to the preparation of scientific and technical guidelines and publications, and work with academia and other research organisations to address knowledge gaps and optimise outcomes for the EPA and the community.

 This is a role for an experienced scientist that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria.

What you’ll do

  • Possesses a tertiary degree and post graduate qualifications in applied science or environmental science, preferably with specialisation in freshwater sciences.
  • Working under the direction of the Principal Scientist – Freshwater, you will provide scientific advice, guidance, and deliver programs in freshwater sciences that meet the priority needs of the EPA as a science-based regulator.
  • Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
  • Deliver scientific advice to inform regulatory and strategic decisions about freshwater quality and freshwater pollution, including the assessment of potential environmental impacts of different options.
  • Analyse scientific evidence and prepare statements of opinion for use in compliance and enforcement activities, including prosecutions.
  • Communicate scientific/technical information about freshwater quality and freshwater pollution to a wide variety of audiences, including the results of associated research and analysis.

We are looking for an experienced Scientist who:

  • Possesses a tertiary degree and post graduate qualifications in applied science or environmental science, preferably with specialisation in freshwater sciences.
  • Has demonstrated knowledge and experience in water quality, water pollution and environmental risk assessment.
  • Proven ability to systematically analyse data and evidence to provide advice to inform regulatory and strategic decisions.  
  • Communicates effectively and builds and sustains enduring relationships to enable the collaborative delivery of outcomes and the achievement of goals and targets.
  • Has a genuine desire to learn, share knowledge and work effectively in a cohesive team.
