Job SummaryThe USDA-NRCS and USDA-ARS funded projects require a full time research scientist/Postdoc to assist the PI with full implementation of the projects. The project “Nutrients & Water Budget Management using Novel Sensor Technology” funded by NRCS requires field work spread across six counties in the state.
Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesResponsible for the management of the experimental sites across six counties (Hinds, Winston, Monroe, Clay, Jefferson-Davis, Walthall, and Bolivar). Will work with specialty crop producers in all phases of field operations. Also, work and maintain soil and water quality laboratory stationed at Mississippi River Research Center.Assist with the implementation of nutrient and water budget management study using novel sensor technology. Perform specialty crop practices required for the production and maintenance of crops as outlined in the research plan and perform all farm-related activities in connection with the operation of the research sites. Additionally, maintain and assist with research operations at agroforestry research site.Responsible for the management of soil health and water quality research experiment under Agroforestry setting.Collect and process soil and water samples from all research sites.Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and other partners involved in center’s research and production activities.
Essential Job FunctionsThe individual willGuide projects or assist the PI with ongoing research projects primarily related to nutrients & water use efficiency using novel sensor technology and soil health & water quality studies.Design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, publish research results in journals as well as at scientific and stakeholder meetings.Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.Assist the PI in writing and preparing grant proposals.
QualificationsPh.D. in Agronomy / Soil Science or closely related field; Demonstrated research experience; Demonstrated ability to analyze data and publish research results; Competency in statistical analysis; A driving license; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Excellent written and oral communication skills; A minimum of three peer reviewed publications in high impact journals.
