About us

UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE), is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. The postholder will join and work with an established group of academics and research staff at UCL working on civil engineering fluids research.

About the role

This Research Fellow position is part of the EPSRC-funded project “Wall-Induced Secondary Currents in Turbulent Flows”. The postholder will develop strategies to simulate water flows and turbulence in open channels and pipes using the method of large-eddy simulation. The position is available as soon as possible until 30 December 2023 in the first instance.

About you

You will have a PhD in a field related to computational fluid mechanics and a first degree in civil or mechanical engineering or a related field. You will also have excellent knowledge of computational fluid mechanics, specifically LES, experience of designing, conducting and analysing numerical simulations of turbulent flows and excellent knowledge of and experience with Tecplot. A background and experience in the field of flows and turbulence over topographical roughness is also essential as is rxperience with analysing large-data sets using statistical methods and experience of journal paper writing.
