He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Plans and Places Department’s Regional Planning Team is in charge of developing planning responses in relation to regional functions (RMA s30) and the natural environment. As a Senior Policy Planner, you will play a pivotal part in the ongoing development of Auckland’s resource management policy and planning, particularly in relation to coastal and freshwater management. You will have oversight of plan changes and their integration with other council programmes, be able to assess the effectiveness of current planning approaches, implement national policy directions, and provide advice on policy implications of regulatory and non-regulatory shifts in resource management practice specifically for the Auckland Unitary Plan.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You will bring a planning qualification (or equivalent) as well as expertise in regional planning and the ability to directly influence Auckland’s future growth and form by tackling regional planning issues across the spectrum, particularly coastal and freshwater regional plan provisions.

You will understand the issues and pressures facing the natural environment in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and be committed to successfully addressing them. You will also have a solid understanding of the Resource Management Act and the Local Government Act, as well as a commitment to upholding the Treaty of Waitangi principles of partnership, participation, and protection.


You will also excel at relationship management because you will be tasked with constructively collaborating with a variety of key stakeholders, including our Council family, external stakeholders, the larger community, and Mana Whenua.
