Position SummaryThe Water Resources research group (Dr. Roderick Lammers – www.rodlammers.com) at Central Michigan University is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on designing and modeling constructed wetlands for mitigating nutrient pollution from agricultural runoff. Specifically, the project will involve testing different design options and using numerical modeling to understand how nutrient removal effectiveness may vary over time for each design. This project is supported by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and is part of a larger collaborative effort advancing the understanding and implementation of natural infrastructure solutions. There will be frequent consultation with USACE staff and collaborating researchers at other universities. Experience with water quality data and/or hydrologic and water quality modeling is required. The ideal candidate would have experience specifically with wetland hydrology and nutrient cycling models.Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.This is a grant-funded position. The expected starting date for the appointment is in July 2023, but this is negotiable. The appointment is full-time for 12 months (renewable based on satisfactory performance and funding availability).
Required QualificationsPh.D. in Environmental Engineering or related field completed within the past 6 yearsExperience with nutrient water quality data and/or hydrologic and water quality modelingBasic knowledge of wetland hydrology and water qualityAbility to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations

About the DepartmentThe School of Engineering and Technology currently offers five ABET accredited engineering programs in computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, industrial engineering technology, and mechanical engineering technology, and has recently started the environmental engineering program. The School of Engineering and Technology presently has 26 full-time faculty members and also offers an undergraduate major in product design engineering technology. The School also has an MS in Engineering program. Courses are taught in an attractive 70,000 square foot engineering & technology building which houses more than twenty laboratories and support spaces.
