Overview

The Public Drinking Water Program is seeking an Environmental Analyst excited to protect Vermont Public Drinking Water through Surface water and Groundwater protection and data management. 

This job could be for you if you like to:
–    Field phone calls from the public about groundwater related questions and well reports 
–    Maintain Well Completion Report Database and conduct outreach and training to well drillers and hydrogeologists on data submissions, accuracy, and improvements  
–    Develop website content and create a variety of outreach pieces (e.g. infographics, fact sheets, social media posts, etc.) that aim to educate the public on Drinking Water Source Permitting and Source Protection 
–    Coordinate and manage well driller licensing and exam with Office of Professional Regulation 
–    Optimize process to approve Imported Bottled Water in Vermont
–    Assist with Source Protection activities, Source Protection Plan updating and other Source Water and Source Protection related tasks 
–    Support Division Hydrogeologist with Groundwater Management Plan Activities and Updates

You will be working closely with a team of experienced hydrogeologists and a source protection specialist and will regularly coordinate broadly with staff from the entire Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division.

We are specifically looking for someone with:
–    Personal and professional interest in drinking water and hydrogeology 
–    Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), Adobe, and computer databases
–    Knowledge of federal and state drinking water regulations, environmental regulations, and/or experience working with the public
–    Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
–    GIS experience is not a requirement, but an advantage

The Agency of Natural Resources and Public Drinking Water Program has an employee-friendly telework policy, requiring staff (once trained) to work from the office as little as a few days a month. The rest of the days, staff are welcome to work in the office as they wish or work from their productive home offices. This is a full-time, permanent position, and when considering salary, remember that benefits is worth ~30% of your total compensation.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, construction sites during all weather conditions and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field.

OR

Three (3) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.
