Lead: Development and Green Finance Specialist with business acumen and experience in business development working with International Finance Institutions preferably EIB, Proparco, KFW, EBRD, SECO, ADB, WB among others. This position can be filled from any of our European office locations.

NIRAS has a good basis of major projects in the development finance sector, but we are looking to expand particularly in the EU, German, French and Swiss market. NIRAS has a unique combination of development consulting and engineering capabilities enabling us to offer integrated project and programme delivery on a wide range of issues moving from environment and climate services, value chain development in agriculture and migration issues to infrastructure. NIRAS is headquartered in Denmark, but has offices around the globe and in more than 8 locations in Europe.

Our organisation

NIRAS is a global interdisciplinary engineering and consulting company with Headquarters in Denmark and over 2,400 permanent staff based in offices around Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. The overseas development work is carried out by the NIRAS International Consulting business unit (NIC). NIRAS is currently looking for a Senior Expert/Project and Bid Manager/Director to strengthen our capacity in energy and climate field which represent core sectors for NIRAS.

The main responsibilities related to the position are project management/direction, technical Quality Assurance and backstopping of projects awarded to NIRAS as well as the building of an opportunity pipeline and the acquisition of new projects. There will also be opportunities for consulting assignments and short-term missions.

About the job

The job will have three main elements:

  • Business development – ensuring a growing pipeline of opportunities and promotion of the NIRAS brand among key clients based on achievements. The successful applicant is expected to manage and lead major tender processes
  • Project Management and Quality Assurance – as Project Manager or Director provide guidance, technical backstopping and strategic direction to project teams and project managers in NIRAS.
  • Technical Inputs – provide the occasional consultancy, QA missions and problem solving in major projects. It is expected that this will entail – strategic thinking, the implementing major funds, procedural advise for administration.

Assignments can focus on the development and green and inclusive finance strategies, appraise and structure SDG-aligned funding, lending and investments, channel public and private capital to support sustainable and social development objectives and integrate social, environment and climate considerations into funding, lending and investment decisions, financial products and services, and policies.

About you

  • More than 10 years of experience in project/programme management and business development in at least some of the following fields: development and green finance, greening the financial sector, capacity building for funds and project development for green/climate finance  in Africa and/or Asia . Knowledge of the EU Taxonomy for sustainable finance and its application is an advantage.
  • The applicant should have experience with donors/clients such as KFW, EIB, EBRD, AFD and SECO.
  • Working experience in EU/Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and/or South America
  • Excellent English language skills. Fluency in French and Spanish is a strong asset
  • Very good communication skills, intercultural competence, ability to work in a team, flexibility to work on a broad range of topics, willingness to travel
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Strong personal networks (e.g. with donors, partner organisations, experts) in the area of green and development finance
  • Master degree in development economics/development finance or a similar degree is required.
  • Keen interest in business development, team work and international travel are expected.
