JOB DESCRIPTION:The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, time-limited, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Scientist in the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment in the area of Hydrologic Modeling (Machine Learning). Initial appointment will be for one year with annual re-appointment based on performance and available funding.The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced machine learning algorithms for optimization and forecasting of hydrologic processes in coastal environments.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hydrology, statistics, and computer science, and will be able to leverage these skills to develop models that accurately predict and simulate hydrological processes in coastal regions.UF is currently ranked as one of the top-5 best public universities, 5th according to the 2021 U.S. News & World Report of Best Colleges. UF is home to Hipergator, which ranks 3rd among university supercomputers in the nation. In addition, the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is currently implementing a major expansion of faculty and state-of-the-art research and education facilities with a focus on AI. The Malachowsky Hall for Data Science & Information Technology, a 260,000 sq feet facility that will serve as the hub for Artificial Intelligence, will open in Spring 2023. EXPECTED SALARY:Salary to commensurate with education and experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:The successful candidate must have a PhD in Science, Statistics, Hydrology, or related field, with a focus on machine learning and hydrologic modeling in coastal environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Preferred qualifications for this position are:3+ years of experience in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms for hydrologic modeling. Experience with hydrologic modeling and simulation in coastal environments. Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R and/or MATLAB. Experience with data analysis and visualization tools, such as Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, and/or Seaborn. Strong understanding of statistical modeling and analysis techniques related to coastal environments.Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlor, Keras, and/or PyTorch is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
