The Opportunity

Our team continues to grow, we are looking for a senior hire with a broad skillset and an ambition to accelerate their career whilst growing our water advisory business. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the engagement on high quality strategy, regulatory, and policy advice to our clients across a wide range of water projects. Candidates should have economics and strategy experience, preferably within utilities with a particular focus on water economics and regulation.  

We are looking for a well-rounded, motivated and enthusiastic Water Economics Lead with strong academic, professional and personal skills.

You will be responsible for leading project engagements for a variety of public and private sector clients, including economic regulators, government agencies major infrastructure funds, institutional investors across the world.

Our projects will typically involve regulatory strategy and policy, business planning, regulatory and commercial due diligence. We are interested to hear from the candidates with significant experience in the regulated networks and in particular water, with deep understanding of PR19 and PR24, awareness of the water companies’ challenges and sector trends and investment requirements and needs. Technical understanding of delivery incentives and outcomes, performance commitments, cost assessment and asset management would be looked at favourably.  

The role requires a range of quantitative and qualitative analysis skills including: 

  • Regulatory/commercial analysis, market assessments and developing business plans;
  • Providing project guidance on various economic modelling;
  • Interviews and workshops with internal and external experts on complex issues, and to inform the due diligence or strategy and sustainable investment advisory projects; 
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships, and supporting business development, project proposals and project delivery;

Is this role right for you?

  • Ideally you will have previous experience in business plan development and regulatory submissions or leading price control work for a regulator. Commercial due diligence and strategy assignments experience for private sector clients including a variety of financial institutions and corporate clients, or governments and government agencies, is also beneficial. 
  • Strong expertise and experience in the UK water sector & an understanding of microeconomics and its application in the built environment;
  • The role is well suited for a commercially strong, highly motivated self-starter, comfortable leading and developing others
