Our Asset Management and Investment Planning (AMIP) team covers a wide range of asset management and investment planning (AMIP) specialist areas, including:

  • Water resource investment planning 
  • Drainage and wastewater investment planning 
  • Asset Management and business planning
  • Engineering studies in the UK and Internationally 
  • Technical advisory including project preparation and support to public private partnerships
  • Data analysis and decision support tools 
  • Carbon, net zero appraisal and strategic planning 
  • Assurance on regulatory returns and business plans
  • Project management of engineering projects 

The industry is facing significant challenges particularly in terms of security of water resources and reducing the impact of wastewater discharges upon rivers.  We are looking to grow our investment planning team to further support our water company clients in addressing these challenges.
Our water consultancy team work across many of the English water company water resource management plans (WRMPs) and regional plans. We are a leading consultancy in water resource planning and have worked closely with Water Resources South East (WRSE) throughout this AMP. Our Asset Management and Investment Planning (AMIP) team lead our input to the water resource management plans as well as working on hydrogen projects and other water and wastewater studies. 
Our AMIP team work closely with the other teams in our Water Consultancy Division; Pipelines and Networks; Treatment; Dams and Reservoirs; and Water Resources and Flooding. Our Water Consultancy Division employs 550 people who are based in offices across the UK and cover all aspects of water industry work from asset management to detailed design in the natural and built environment. We also work closely with colleagues in our Environment and Social Division to make sure that the impact of decisions upon the environment are properly accounted for.
All members in our team have the opportunity to move around and work in different areas. Your role will depend on your experience and interests and it is likely you will either take on a technical or commercial role, or you may combine both.

Candidate Specification

Required for the position of Water Analyst – Asset Management and Investment Planning Team; 

  • Relevant Masters in water resources, water management, water engineering or other related degree 
  • Understanding of the water industry, the business planning process and challenges faced
  • Experience of understanding client needs and developing analytical approaches to efficiently analyse problems and present results in a clear and compelling way
  • Excellent report writing and presenting skills
  • And experience in one or more of the following:
  • Project management, client liaison and consulting
  • Experience in developing aspects of water company business plans
  • Experience in developing business cases (e.g. following HM Treasury Green Book)
  • Experience with developing Water Resource Management Plans (WRMP) or Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMP) for UK Water Companies 
  • Understanding of the components that make up a water supply-demand balance and how these are estimated and forecast
  • Experience in demand management and leakage 
  • Experience of undertaking options appraisal 

Preferred, but not required  

  • Experience in data analysis (including use of Excel, PowerBI and Python coding)
  • UK water sector experience
  • Familiarity with water sector regulation in the UK
  • Previous consulting experience
  • Carbon or system experience
