Water Specialist/Biologist

COWI

Lyngby, Denmark 🇩🇰

Application deadline: 09 June 2023 – Denmark – Location: Lyngby – Water & Environment

Permanent

Full time/part-time

Flexible work

Do you want an exciting and meaningful job with focus on fresh water? Do you have a holistic approach to freshwater biology, environmental assessments and assessments of water plans and Natura-2000? And are you an expert with focus on the contemporary challenges to the planning of fresh water? Then, this is the place to apply your knowledge and curiosity to enable a better tomorrow.

Create the solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

As a part of the green transition, COWI has decided not to work with projects in the extraction and transport of fossil fuels. With a position at COWI, you will therefore contribute to the green transition.

To strengthen our team of experts and provide specialist input within freshwater, we are looking for a specialist to join our team. We are working alongside our customers on some of Denmark’s most significant projects in freshwater biology.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Calculating, advising and writing sections on surface water in environmental assessments. Hence the assessment of quality elements on fish, benthic animals, aquatic plants or environmentally harmful substances.
  • Contribute to ensuring a high professional level in our environmental assessment as well as integration of environmental considerations.
  • Preparation of authority applications in the field of fresh water
  • Further development on assessment processes on primarily freshwater
  • The interaction and impact between inland waters and sewages systems in various projects
  • Fieldwork with registration of streams and waterholes
  • Depending on your expertise within other parts of biology, your work could also include e.g., birds, amphibians, terrestrial biology, Natura 2000 assessments etc.
  • Acting as a project manager – if this has your interest.

Right now, for example, there are tasks such as the environmental impact assessment of the onshore facilities for windfarms, where you could contribute to the assessment on streams and lakes.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways, but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will have:

  • A master’s degree within the field of biology, ecotoxicology, environmental engineering or similar with focus on fresh water and freshwater biology
  • Experience working within water plans and environmental assessment within fresh water
  • The drive to develop and further strengthen the freshwater area in COWI
  • Advanced communication skills in English and Danish – both written and spoken.

You will be part of a dedicated and diverse team within environmental assessment – our team comes from many different backgrounds – e.g. biologists, geographers, and planners. It also includes a team of very experienced environmental lawyers, so that you can always get sparring on the latest developments within environmental law.

We also offer

We have a great focus on the individual employee, and we offer great flexibility around planning work-life and workplace. We offer flexible work – you can combine working from the office, from home or from other places – as long as you complete your tasks.

The position is 37 hours pr. week with flexibility, but if you prefer, a lower weekly work time can be agreed.
