Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Pevensey-based environmental monitoring team. This role has a focus on data quality management. You will be involved in analysing, validating and quality assuring collected data and ensuring that it meets our customer needs. This role will give you first-hand experience of using the telemetry system to bring near real-time data into the office. It will also allow you to take part in a range of monitoring methods out in the field.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Collecting and processing hydrometric data
• Daily checks of our telemetry sites for faults
• Populating databases with level and flow information
• Responding to requests for data and helping customers get the information they need
• Supporting the team to deliver field monitoring and fault fixing at our telemetry sites

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role

The team

Based in Pevensey, the Hydrometry and Telemetry team is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the hydrometric network across Sussex. This provides evidence needed by the Environment Agency to issue flood warnings and support water resource planning, as well as external customers.

Experience/skills required

You will need to have:

• An aptitude for numbers
• Demonstrate a logical and problem-solving mind
• Great attention to detail to analyse trends in large data sets
• Excellent communication skills
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and databased management
• The ability to work on your own initiative, organise your own work and work with other team members

As you will gain experience working in the field, you must be happy to work outdoors and be willing to travel to access remote field sites.

Role specific license requirements: Full UK Driver’s License
