WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Director of Policy and Strategic Programs works with government and business entities at all levels to further the Conservancy’s mission. They monitor legislative, administrative, and/or corporate initiatives and policies, which are related to the mission or programs of TNC. Duties include engaging local, national, and regional officials and/or corporate representatives to advance the conservation vision of the Caribbean Division through policy and or regulatory action, often in close collaboration with global and geography-based leadership. They represent The Nature Conservancy before special interest groups, and work among key government and business officials to increase support for TNC’s mission and programs. They plan, implement, and coordinate strategic programs that deliver outcomes aligned with the Caribbean Division’s Strategic Plan to increase impact of the organization at the global, regional, and national/territorial level in our Caribbean geographies to aligns with the Caribbean Division Strategic Plan. They are responsible for and actively manage the public funding pipeline, including internal reporting and tracking, that supports Caribbean Division priorities and leads a team that actively engages in raising both public and private funds to meet the Division’s needs. Representing TNC, they work among key government and business officials to increase support for TNC’s mission and programs. They manage the relationship with the Caribbean Challenge Initiative and Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), including serving as TNC’s designated CBF Board representative. Manage multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff with responsibility for their performance management, training, and career development. Develop and administer External Affairs budget and operate within budget guidelines to ensure sound financial performance and ensure that the External Affairs team meets all lobbying, contractual, and legal regulations, and standards.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related senior-level work experience engaging in conservation policy and management at national and multi-national levels.
- Fluency in English, with both oral and written language proficiency that supports high impact conversations and presentations.
- Experience in public policy, conservation/environmental policy, regulatory advocacy, and public funding.
- Experience building effective relationships across an organization and with partners such as corporations, public agencies, donors, and/or volunteers.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance of a multi-cultural team. Experience delegating responsibility and authority to staff and clearly defining expectations.
- Experience with team leadership skills, including the ability to effectively manage and supervise a multi-disciplinary team and manage a program budget.
- Experience working with current and evolving political, legislative, sustainability, and/or conservation trends on an international, regional, country or sub-national level.
- Experience in current trends and practices in conservation including climate adaptation and mitigation, complex conservation agreements and/or sustainable financing mechanisms, marine and/or terrestrial protected area management, freshwater, marine and terrestrial spatial planning, community-based conservation in the Caribbean.
- Experience in directing or participating in complex negotiations and presenting to and communicating with government officials, corporate executives, board members and others.
- Experience designing, implementing, and directing multiple and multifaceted projects, setting deadlines, and ensuring program accountability.
- Experience working with public funders to shape their priorities and developing successful proposals.
- Experience in appreciation and respect for the diversity of cultures, languages, and perspectives that exist across the Caribbean.
- Experience communicating complex processes and ideas effectively to a variety of audiences within and outside an organization.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated. Working command of Spanish and/or French is a plus.
- Master’s degree in public policy, business administration or other relevant fields appreciated.
- Significant experience in business development, general management, management consulting, or investment banking. Experience with corporate social responsibility or corporate sustainability.
- Outstanding analytical and project management capabilities. Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement complex projects and, when necessary, create the structures or enabling conditions for their success.
- Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
- Independent and self-motivated with the ability to participate effectively in a remote team environment.
- Private philanthropic fundraising experience a plus.
