SEATTLE - Alaska Airlines plans to hire more than 3,000 new employees during the coming year, and most of the new jobs will be in Washington state, the Seattle-based company announced Monday.

The majority of the new jobs will be in frontline positions, according to the airline.

"We’re planning to hire a range of roles across different parts of Alaska and Horizon, including maintenance technicians, airport operations, pilots, customer service, cargo and flight attendants," the airline said in a prepared statement. "A majority of the new jobs, which will be posted online, do not require previous airline experience."

The announcement comes just after Alaska Airlines hired its 10,000th employee in Washington state. The airline also boasts that it has a 50 percent female workforce.

"An airline needs great planes, but also great people. We’re thankful for the community here in our home state that is producing diverse talent and strong local partnerships," said Andy Schneider, Alaska Airlines vice president of people.

An economic impact study conducted by the airline found that it contributed $7 billion to the local economy and supported mor than 23,500 jobs across the state through the multiplier effect, helping to support more than 3,500 vendors in 2017.

Alaska Airlines also has spent nearly $2.4 billion on Boeing jetliners over the past five years.

The airline currently serves about 22 million passengers each year.
